Advanced Micro Devices vs. Intel: Which Technology Stock Is a Better Buy in 2026?

The battle between AMD and Intel has taken a sharp turn as we head into 2026. AMD is clearly riding a wave of artificial intelligence demand, posting a 34% jump in revenue thanks to new partnerships and strong data center sales. Intel, on the other hand, is still fighting through a painful restructuring, dealing with ongoing losses and a shrinking share of the server market.

For investors, the choice is not just about past performance. AMD has positioned itself as the go-to alternative for AI workloads, with its MI300 series accelerators winning contracts from major cloud providers. The company's chiplet design approach has also helped it keep costs down while improving performance per watt. That has translated into better gross margins and a healthier balance sheet.

Intel is not standing still. Its foundry business, Intel Foundry Services, is trying to win external customers, and the company has secured some government funding under the CHIPS Act. But the core problem remains: Intel's own processors are losing ground in both laptops and servers, and its manufacturing process has lagged behind TSMC for years. The recent layoffs and dividend cuts have shaken investor confidence, even if they are necessary for long-term survival.

Valuation tells a similar story. AMD trades at a higher price-to-earnings multiple, but that premium is justified by faster growth and a clearer path to AI-driven profits. Intel looks cheap on paper, but it is cheap for a reason. The company has not posted consistent earnings growth since 2021, and its turnaround could take years.

That said, Intel does offer a higher dividend yield, which might appeal to income-focused investors. But with the payout under pressure and the stock still volatile, that yield is not a safe bet.

In the end, for 2026, AMD looks like the stronger pick. Its momentum is real, its technology is competitive, and it is in the right market at the right time. Intel may eventually recover, but betting on that recovery now is a riskier play with less upside. If you want growth and a company aligned with the AI boom, AMD is the better buy. If you prefer a turnaround story with a possible long wait, Intel is the gamble.
